Looks like Taylor has changed her persona from country belle to radical chic in music video, “I Knew You Were Trouble.” It is completely opposite in theme and message from her debut hit single that had launched her music career. Taylor Swift’s recent song released into the market in 2011 marking a change of direction in her career. This is coming from the teenage artist who once pledged sobriety and took millions of teenage fans under her wing. She promised to be a role model for others to look up to and emulate but now I see that she has changed her mind. Parents probably wouldn’t want to allow their children to follow in her footsteps.
On the first glimpse of the video, many will be surprised by the lengthy prologue-without realizing that the “talking” is a part of the track. This is not to say that there is anything lacking in Taylor’s creative caliber; it is simply not something we have come to expect from our beloved country sweetheart. The prologue idea is unique and interesting, with a creative opening. If the prologue was deleted, listeners may not lose interest so quickly. Furthermore, the rest of the song was not palatable because it lacked the passion and opulence that her fans had come to expect from her.
Nonetheless, Taylor is an amazing vocalist and the lyrics are quite impressive. But we can see the pattern of ‘Good Girl Gone Bad’ emerging once again as it lead many iconic artists awry. Let’s just hope that Swift has enough tenacity and will power to keep mind over matter.
